Why do I care? – Guest Post from Javier Hernandez

Guest Post from Javier Hernandez, Jacksonville Regional Political Director

JHernandezFlorida Competes organizers and volunteers across the state are gearing up for this Sunday’s Statewide Day of Action.

Since I joined this campaign, I’ve talked to a lot of different Floridians about why this work matters and it’s inspiring to hear how people from many different backgrounds and perspectives can come together to fight for fairness.

For me, that’s what it’s all about: fairness. This Sunday, volunteers will take action across our state so that no one has to live in fear of being fired from their job, for who they are or who they love.

Can you help? We’ll have lots of different ways to get involved, from letter-writing to phone calls. RSVP now and we’ll be in touch about how you can help.

I grew up in Florida, it’s my home, and when I learned about this campaign, I knew I had to get involved. Florida Competes is an incredible opportunity – a campaign that’s about bringing people together to do the right thing for our state.

As a straight man, sometimes people ask me why I care about securing non-discrimination protections for LGBT Floridians, and my answer is simple: I know injustice when I see it.

If you’re ready to get to work for fairness, join me and hundreds of other Floridians this Sunday.
